Stephanie Smith is a Bay Area-based artist exploring intersections between art, design, and digital storytelling. Her recent paintings and digital sculptures blur physical and visual spaces by shifting variables of color, form, and dimension. The resulting works playfully consider our experiences in the contemporary world, from screens to modes of communication.
Smith's other creative practice focuses on digital storytelling for various Bay Area arts institutions. Recently, she co-founded on-off.site, a platform for experimental features on local creatives. Alongside videos and interactive interviews, this website will soon host digital artist residencies.
Stephanie Smith has exhibited at Root Division (San Francisco), the Compound Gallery (Oakland), Interface Gallery (Oakland), ASC Projects (San Francisco), among others. Smith was formally one-half of smith|allen studio, completing residencies at Autodesk (San Francisco) and at Project 387 (Gualala). The collective’s work has been published in Wired, 7x7, Architect Magazine, and Hi-Fructose, among other publications. In 2015, the duo completed a large-scale installation at Facebook.
